Northwestern University is located in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Its acronym is simply NU. It serves over 18,000 students, both undergraduates and those in post-graduate studies. The fields of study at Northwestern include medicine, law, engineering, music, journalism, education, business, psychology and chemistry.
Northwestern was founded in 1851 by members who were affiliated with the local Methodist Episcopal Church. Although they were religious, they deemed that their admissions would remain non-sectarian. They wanted the school to serve all the people who lived in this newly developed territory.
