The higher education system here is based on the UK’s systems, due to the close to a century of Christian and British presence in Burma. The literacy rate is 89.7% according to UNESCO. But the annual budget allocated to education is low, about 1.2%. English language is taught as a second language of association and communication. Both public and private universities plus colleges are about 150 in number. The ministry of education is responsible for the day to day academic activities. At present, the number of foreign students is above 2000. There are limited work opportunities also. When you are done, you can ask the institution where you studied to assist you in getting a job.
