Higher education in Laos is considered by the international community as one of the poorest in the world. The country is estimated to be 6 million people, while 70% of people living in rural areas, with limited access to academic services and basic infrastructures. The standard of education is also very low; some parents cannot afford the exorbitant fees, so they deterred their children from going to tertiary institutions. Furthermore, more than 25% of the university lecturers are highly unqualified. About 3% of the entire population has gotten a university degree, and there are only 3 public universities, and poor student work opportunities, and not more than 20 foreign students are here. Most graduates travel outside the country to look for jobs.
