Every citizen of Bahamas is destined to be educated. The literacy rate is about 18%, about 12% of her population are having higher education. More than 16,000 students are in the tertiary institutions. There are 4 public universities, and 2 private universities. Many people prefer going to the private universities, because of lack of basic teaching amenities in public universities. Students can pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees. There is also an institute where children with special disabilities can attend. Currently, over 4,000 foreign students are pursuing academic studies in Bahamas. There are plenty of work for graduates both indigenes, and foreigners. International students can work with or without work permit.
